Described by the Huffington Post as “an evolutionary force in contemporary Middle Eastern music,” Niyaz—led by
vocalist Azam Ali and multi-instrumentalist Loga Ramin Torkian on oud and kamaan—seamlessly blend medieval
Sufi poetry and folk songs from their native Iran with rich acoustic instrumentation and modern electronic rhythms.
The result is a distinctively twenty-first-century global
trance sound. Through music rooted in but not limited by
tradition, Niyaz encourage social and political
awareness, exploring themes such as the plight of
immigrants and of ethnic and religious minority groups.
The band’s latest album, The Fourth Light, pays tribute
to the eighth-century Sufi poet Rabia al Basri, and
features lyrics in Farsi, Dari, Turkish, and Urdu. Don’t
miss this chance to hear the new tracks live!
