Digging Iran: American Archaeological Exploration of Iran, 1900-2000

Ali Moussavi, Ph.D., Assistant Curator of Ancient Iranian and Near Eastern Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, discusses the role of the US in the exploration of Iran during the 20th Century. The work of American archaeologists in Iran has had a long –lasting impact on the trend of archaeological studies both in the US and Iran. Objects excavated in Iran, which came to America, not only helped to shape the collecting patterns of various museums, but had a major impact on the development of Iranian studies at universities and colleges across the US.
